Anne Doorduin

Annie (Anne) Alida Doorduin, aged 70, passed away with family by her side on April 16, 2025.

Anne was born in Brampton, Ontario on July 27, 1954 to our beloved parents, Arend and Nel Doorduin. She grew up in Woodbridge and Rexdale, attending Timothy Christian School and Toronto District Christian High School.

From the beginning, Anne had a flair for acting, singing, and drawing. She loved music and dancing, was very funny, and brought joy to the people in her life. She was a great photographer, documenting all family events and the natural world around her. In her later years she lived at Holland Christian Homes (HCH), where she regularly photographed community gatherings and took portraits of residents and staff -- which she then printed and distributed, to people’s delight. Anne remembered birthdays and anniversaries with great faithfulness, often with handmade cards featuring her own photographs.

Anne had a kind word or hello for everyone she met. She was a faithful volunteer for many years in Faith Manor, watering plants and arranging flowers for the residents there. She created numerous beautiful collages of HCH events and trips for all to enjoy. She loved hosting family and friends in her apartment, creating memorable spreads of favorite foods and making sure all of her guests felt welcome and comfortable.

Anne will be dearly missed by her sisters, Rebecca (Art) Miedema of Etobicoke, Ontario and Helena (Chris) Vander Ark of Madison, Wisconsin. She was a beloved aunt to Janice Miedema, Jessica Miedema, Daniel (Lindsay) Miedema, Andrew (Kristin) Miedema, Lydia (Jeremy) Schouten, Willem Vander Ark, Eleanor Vander Ark, and Julia Vander Ark. As a great aunt to Adah, Dante, Oliver, Ari, Selah, Rebecca, Jedediah, Hayden, Harriet, Israel, Winifred, and Ephraim, Anne will be fondly remembered for yearly birthday cards and gifts, special snacks, and take-home treats after family gatherings. Anne will also be missed by many dear friends at HCH and Covenant Reformed Church of Toronto.

A celebration of Anne’s life will be held at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, April 29th in Horizon Hall at Holland Christian Homes, Brampton, Ontario, with time to greet the family following the service. A private burial will take place prior at Beechwood Cemetery in Vaughn, where our parents are buried.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Timothy Christian School in Anne’s memory would be welcome.
