Anna Di Vito

Anna DiVito, age 87, of Woodbridge Ontario, passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 after a long struggle with dementia.

Anna was born on May 30, 1936 to Lucia (Cianfarani) and Vincenzo Rotondi in Sora, Italy.

Anna first met Fernando in 1952 in an amusement park in Sora. Although Anna initially ran off when Fernando simply asked for her name, this chance encounter eventually led to a loving 68-year marriage and gave rise to their four children, Rocco, Lucia, Roberto and Marco.

Anna and Fernando immigrated to Canada in 1955 and started building roots in their new home. Fernando was first to arrive, soon followed by Anna after they were married by proxy with Fernando’s father, Antonio, standing in for his son at the wedding. Anna initially was a stay-at-home mother but her compassion for Fernando led her to find work to help him with their small family. Although Fernando was reluctant, Anna was content with whatever work she could find as long as it helped the family. She worked as a general labourer with the Toronto Star and eventually had a long career with Crown Cork and Seal. She enjoyed her work, her relationships at the company and the ability to earn a good wage with pension benefits that would go on to help her right up until her last days.

Anna worked hard and lived a full life. Her kids were always a focus and their successes would bring her great joy. She protected her brood beyond reproach and took comfort in the sacrifice of having created a large, tightly knit family that would carry on past her. Besides a large family Anna had many friends with the quintessential Canadian Snowbird life where she, and Fernando, enjoyed many nights of dinners and parties with new found friends. Anna’s aspirations where grounded in family and, in that desire, life had delivered the seeds she planted decades earlier with Fernando.

Anna is predeceased by her mother and father, Lucia and Vincenzo. She is survived by her husband Fernando, children Rocco (Maria Luisa), Lucia (Roberto), Roberto and Marco (Katia), grandchildren Robert Jr., Christina, Diana, Daniel, Sarah, Benjamin, Cecilia, Emma, Thomas, Lukas and Corina, great grandchildren Micayla, Marcus, Anabelle and Sebastian and her siblings Maria Tersigni, Nina Rotondi, Rinaldo Rotondi and Rita Paladinelli.

Visitation Services will be held at Ward Funeral Home, Woodbridge Chapel, on Monday, May 13, 2024. Visitation hours are from 2PM to 5PM and 6PM to 8PM, A funeral Mass for Anna will be held at St. Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church in Woodbridge on Tuesday May 14 at 9:30AM with an interment to follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Woodbridge. Guests are invited to attend a reception at Universal Banquet Hall, 6250 Hwy 7, Vaughan, ON, following the interment.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association and/or Villa Leonardo Gambin, two organizations that helped Anna immensely throughout her battle with Alzheimer's.

Lascia il marito Fernando, i figli Rocco (Maria Luisa), Lucia (Roberto), Roberto e Marco (Katia), i nipoti Robert Jr., Christina, Diana, Daniel, Sarah, Benjamin, Cecilia, Emma, Thomas, Lukas e Corina, i pronipoti Micayla, Marcus, Anabelle e Sebastiano e i suoi fratelli Maria Tersigni, Nina Rotondi, Rinaldo Rotondi e Rita Paladinelli.
