Died on April 28, 2011, peacefully in her sleep after a long struggle with leukemia. She will be deeply missed by her husband of 41 years, Richard, and by her children Kate (Douglas Long) and Richard (Mariane Takahashi). An adored grandmother, she doted on Patrick, Rosie and Ned who will all miss their Granny terribly.
Anita was born in May 1944 at Glen Albert, Roscrea, Ireland. She has lived variously in Dublin and Belfast; in Farnham and Cranleigh in England; and in Montreal and Oakville in Canada.
She enjoyed life immensely and all who knew her loved her humour, her generous spirit and her beautiful gardens. Anita adopted many strays through the years – of both the two legged and four legged variety, and through her we learnt that there is always room for at least one more at the table. The kitchen was the heart of her home: her skills there were unparalleled and her bacon sandwiches the stuff of legend.
We will remember her when we gather with love and laughter, and we will miss her in the silences.
Donations, please to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Canada in lieu of flowers.
There will be a memorial held at 4pm on Saturday 7 May 2011 at Ward Funeral Home, 109 Reynolds Street, Oakville, Ontario (905)844-3221. A book of memories can be signed at www.wardfuneralhome.com
