It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Andrew Hasulo, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, godfather, and friend, on September 12, 2026, at the age of 96.
Andy was born on November 1, 1929, in Ajak, Hungary, the youngest of seven children. He grew up surrounded by family, traditions, and a strong Catholic faith, which remained an important part of his life.
Following the Hungarian Revolution of 1956, Andy came to Canada and eventually found his way to his aunt and uncle in Leamington, Ontario, who welcomed him into their home and helped him begin his new life. He later lived in Hamilton, where he was joined by many friends who had also made their way to Canada from Ajak. A hard worker, Andy eventually found permanent employment at American Motors in Brampton, where he worked until his retirement.
In 1964, Andy returned to Ajak to visit his family — with another objective as well: to find himself a Hungarian wife. There he met Helen Leskovics. Their courtship was remarkably quick; they met, dated and married within about a month. Helen came to Canada in 1965 to begin their life together.
Andy and Helen and were married for 56 years and built a loving family in Brampton, Ont., raising their daughter, Susanne. In retirement, they enjoyed travelling, making many trips to Hungary and throughout Europe. Andy also loved gardening, spending time with his grandchildren, being of service in his church community, and visiting with family and friends.
Andy was predeceased by Helen in 2020, as well as his parents and siblings. He will be deeply missed by his daughter Susanne, son-in-law John Bugailiskis, grandsons Christopher and Justin, his nieces and nephews, extended family in Canada and Hungary, and the many friends who knew and loved him.
Special thanks to “Andy’s Angels”— his niece, Elizabeth Mestyan; Susanne’s sister-in-law, Alexandra Bugailiskis; and his aide, Krisztina Szabo —for their exceptional and loving care of Andy in his final years, as well as the dedicated staff at AbleLiving in Binbrook and West Oak Village in Oakville.
Andy will be remembered with love for his faith, kindness, generosity, and the many memories he created with those around him.
If desired, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
Nyugodjál békében, Andy. May you rest in peace.
