Alma Doherty

Alma Lorraine Doherty (nee Lawrence) - Passed away peacefully on June 10, 2012 in her 91st year at West Oak Village in Oakville. Predeceased by her loving husband Ken of 66 years. Loving mother to Robin (Dan) Benson and Joffre (deceased). Proud and loving grandmother to Andrew, Jen and Matthew. Dear sister of Maxine Moore and her husband Cecil (deceased).
Intelligent, energetic and courageous, Alma left the farm where she grew up in the small town of Seaforth, Ontario, to attend nursing college in Toronto. Graduating at Wellesley Hospital in 1944, Alma was a compassionate, kind and loving person who enjoyed helping others. We will miss her indomitable will, her amazing spirit and her courage to live her life on her own terms.
Sincere thanks to the staff and caregivers at West Oak Village for their compassionate care during the nine years that Mom made the residence her home.
Family and friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home “Oakville Chapel”, 109 Reynolds Street, Oakville, on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 14, 2012 in the chapel at 11:00 a.m. to be immediately followed by a reception at Ward Funeral Home. Interment 2:00 p.m. at Glendale Memorial Gardens (Albion Road at Hwy. 27, Toronto).
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Salvation Army or Covenant House would be appreciated.
