It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Albert Hartholt on April 9, 2026, at the age of 97, with family at his bedside.
Albert was predeceased by his beloved wife, Joanna, and his grandson Joel. He leaves behind a legacy of love and family through his children, Linda (Tony, deceased) and Ron (Sharon). He was a proud and loving grandfather to Kerri (Rob), Dana (David), Luke (Maegan), Ben (Saskia), Jordan, Joyelle and a cherished great-grandfather to Cody, Wesley, Austin, Selah, Joseph, and Ezra.
A man of curiosity and determination, Albert embraced life with enthusiasm. He loved trying new things, setting goals, and seeking out adventure. His passions were many and included travelling, chess, golf, jogging and astronomy, as well as spending time at his cottage in Muskoka sailing, reading and moving rocks.
Music was also a very important part of his life and he found joy in playing both the organ and piano, as well as singing in various choirs, including the Liberation Choir that travelled through the Netherlands in 1995 in commemoration of the liberation of the Dutch people at the end of World War II by Canadian soldiers. He was a faithful member of his church, Maranatha Christian Reformed Church in Woodbridge for the majority of his life, even continuing to play the organ there well into his 80's.
At the age of 69, he biked all the way across Canada with the Tour du Canada. Then at age 93, he bought himself a new red Cadillac and drove solo to Alberta to visit his beloved sister, Bonnie.
He was dedicated to his career-first at Grant Brown Motors, where he started out washing cars and worked his way up to sales manager and then at Old Mill Cadillac, where he spent most of his career finally retiring in his 80's.
Albert will be remembered for his humility and gentle nature, as well as his integrity and the confidence he had knowing he would one day go Home to his heavenly Father. He spoke of this often in his later years. When asked by his family to write up something about his life, he ended it with, “At the end of this story all we can say is that God was Good.”
