Obituary

It is with heavy hearts and faithful guidance we share that our beloved father, Achilles Panagiotis Koutsoulias fell asleep in the Lord on April 10, 2026 surrounded by the loving and prayerful presence of his beloved children.

Achilles was born in Xios, Greece on the 18th of November 1945, the youngest of three children to the late Virginia and Panagiotis Koutsoulias, brother of Ioanna and the late Pantelis.

Achilles was an accomplished mechanic by trade, travelling the world in his early adulthood as a Merchant Marine after serving in the Greek Navy. He emigrated to Canada in 1971 where he lived briefly in Montreal and later settled in Toronto, continuing his career in the automotive field where he became licensed in Canada. Generous with his time and his expertise, he often helped family, friends and neighbours with their vehicles and soon became the go-to-guy for car advice.

The proud father of three children: Peter, Virginia (George) and Michael (Dimitra) and five grandchildren; Alexander, Lukas, Evangelia, Konstantine and Aris - Achilles had an observant presence and often enjoyed watching his grandchildren and proudly admiring how each of their personalities shone. His love was thoughtful and quiet, but ran deep and ferocious- it was shown in the things he did for us, in his ways and his words - in the advice he would offer and in his smiling eyes when he would talk about his grandchildren.

Dad found salvation and grace in Our Lord and shared his Faith with those around him. For his children, this is the most precious gift - we will honour our father by being faithful in The Lord, knowing that He will provide us comfort and strength during this time and that He will cleanse us and lead us to salvation. Dad’s wish was that we share The Word, Jesus, in prayer with our people and pals, as he would say. Dad, we find comfort in our hearts that you are not gone, but fallen asleep in our Lord, and eternal in our cherished memories.

Dad passed away on Orthodox Good Friday, we know it was purposeful and with reverence.
The passing away on Great and Holy Friday of a believer is considered a profound blessing, often viewed as a sign of special grace, as this passing is united with Christ's ultimate sacrifice, to break the power of death — a day observed as a moment of intense mourning, reflection, and finality before the joy of the resurrection. In his life and even in his passing (how incredible!) Dad showed us that it is Faith that is his most important and underscored powerful message to us, his children. You have succeeded Dad. May you rest in eternal peace. You are in our hearts, until we are reunited in our Lord. Καλό Παράδεισο Μπαμπά.

We love you so much, thank you for everything.
