Ruth Spence

October 24, 1925 - May 6, 2022


Ruth Lillian Spence (nee Bull) was born October 24, 1925 in Jefferson Ontario and passed away peacefully at her home in Welland Ontario on May 6, 2022 at the age of 96.

Beloved wife for 57 years of the late Clarence Spence, loving mother of Brian (Darleen), Linda (David) Gifford, Tammy Hodgins and Shaun Cooke. Grandmother of Lisa (Brad) Klinck, Susan (Dwyane) Mintz, Shawn Gifford and Andrew (Ashley) Gifford. Great-grandmother of Caleb, Sarah and Joshua Klinck, Georgia Gifford and Elizabeth Gifford. Survived by one brother, Herb, sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brothers Earl, Archie, Weldon and Harold Bull.

Ruth loved her Lord, her family and her church. She was an active member of the Richmond Hill Free Methodist Church for over 30 years. Ruth and Clarence opened their home to dozens of foster children over the years. Though Ruth was quiet, she was always a strong and vocal advocate for all of her “kids”.

Visitations at Ward Funeral Home, Hwy #7, Woodbridge Wednesday, May 11, 2:00-4:00 pm and 6:00-8:00 pm, Thursday, May 12, 1:00-2:00 p.m. A celebration of Ruth’s life and legacy is being held in the chapel at Ward Funeral Home Thursday, May 12 at 2:00 pm. A live stream service will be available. Final Resting Place is Beechwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of one's choice.
