Julie Middlebrook

March 15, 1925 — April 5, 2023

Julie Middlebrook

Mom Middlebrook has fought the good fight, she has finished her race, she has kept the faith. She has moved on to the better country, the heavenly country, where faith has become sight in the eternal presence of her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ whom she faithfully and fruitfully served for almost the entirety of her life. Dad and Mom met at the Evangel Temple in downtown Toronto when Dad (Bill) was 13 and Mom (Julie) was 12. Shortly after marriage, Dad served overseas in the Canadian Armed Forces during World War 2. Dad passed away on January 28, 1994.

Mom was precious mother to Danny (Debra), Shannon (Leonard), Michael (Sheila), Kristin (David), Karla (Doug), and her predeceased sons Bill (2010), Greg (2021) and Peter (2015). She will be greatly missed by her 27 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren (predeceased by Jenna Leigh) and her many nieces and nephews. Mom was one of 11 children, and is survived by her youngest sister, Dee Meredith.

Sunday afternoons over lunch were a weekly highlight in the Middlebrook home. Mom had the gift of hospitality. There always seemed to be two or three friends, old and new, from church at our table. Mom was a great cook. As well, both Dad and Mom faithfully visited nursing homes in the GTA praying, feeding, and helping the residents in any way they could. Eventually Dad served as a volunteer chaplain at West Park while Mom served as a volunteer member of the lay pastoral team. Though Dad and Mom’s spiritual influence was considerable in the various nursing homes in which they sacrificially volunteered their time, by far their greatest spiritual impact was within their own family of eight children in which Bible reading and prayer—family altar—was a daily occurrence. Our brother Danny, a recording artist, sings of this significant spiritual impact in several songs including Rough, Raw and Simple (about Dad) and Mama Prayed (about Mom).

Thank you friends for your prayers for our family as we walk through the valley of the shadow of death. We fear no evil knowing that the Lord is our Shepherd. As committed followers of the Lord Jesus Christ we know that we will see Mom again in Father’s eternal heavenly home where there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain. Mom was promoted to glory on Wednesday April 5, 2023 with family by her side.

Mom is resting at Ward Funeral Home at 2035 Weston Road in Toronto, Ontario. Visitation is scheduled from 4pm-8pm on Tuesday April 11. The life-honouring service for Mom will be held in the Ward Funeral Home chapel on Wednesday April 12 at 1pm.
