Giovanni "John" Simone

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we inform you of the passing of Mr. John Simone on April 9, 2021 at his home with his family at his side. John worked hard throughout his life to create better opportunities for his family. As a young immigrant to this country he took on many challenges in his life. After living in this country for a few short years through shear determination and hard work he started his own company Dranco Construction. John was born in Pescosolido, Frosinone,. Italy on Jan 3, 1931. He was the youngest of 8 children born to Cristina and Domenico Simone. He immigrated to Canada in 1954 and lived together with his brother’s family and soon started to work in the construction industry. John enjoyed recounting many stories of his younger days experiences. He would tell the story of how he acquired his first business loan based on solely a hand shake and promise to repay. His collateral, hard work, integrity, honesty, muddy boots and calloused hands were enough to satisfy the bank manager and secure his loan. Mr. Thompson and John remained family friends for the rest of their lives. He loved telling his family about his teenage years, the daily challenges and mischievous shenanigans carried out with his brothers and friends. How his mother Cristina ruled the household with a no nonsense approach and would exact appropriate punitive measures to keep him and his brothers in check. Saying the rosary every evening gathered around the family fireplace was mandatory, no excuses no matter how hard the boys tried to get out of it. Asked how he would like to be remembered John answered “honest, hardwork and family are my ideals” John is survived by his loving wife Mary of 66 years, predeceased by his son Robert, loving father to Rose ( Ray) and Christina. Cherished grandfather to Melissa ( Ryan ), Matthew ( Lynn ), Abbigail ( Nick ) and Christian. Adoring great grandfather to Charlotte, Bernadette, Benjamin, Raphael, Oliver, Karolina, Maximillian, Emilia and Estelle. Our thoughts are with the entire Simone family during this difficult time. The visitation will be held on Monday April 12, 2021. If you wish to attend the visitation, for Giovanni (John) Simone .you are asked to register at https://www.wardfuneralhomes.com/obituaries .
