Alberto Petrongolo

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, Alberto Petrongolo. He lived a full life and we are thankful to have celebrated his 90th birthday together in June.

Our father was a hard-working man whose work ethic was unparalleled. He came from humble beginnings and lived a modest life. He was determined to build a strong foundation for his family so that we did not have to struggle as he did. We are forever grateful to him for setting that example for our children.

There were many things in his life that brought him joy but none more than his five grandchildren, Matthew, Natalie, Erica, Luca, and Julia. They were a tremendous source of pride for him and he treasured the time they spent together. He especially loved to play cards and checkers with them.

Not one to stay still, and aside from working hard, he kept active playing bocce for most of his life and won many tournaments. To say he was fiercely competitive is an understatement! He loved to care for his garden and spent many hours tending to it. When he did sit down to relax, he enjoyed watching endless hours of wrestling.

Our father was born in Torrevecchia Teatina, Italy in 1930 and immigrated to Canada in 1956. Our parents were married for 59 years and had two children, Sandra and Marco. Together, they enjoyed spending time with family, participating in social functions, dancing and being part of their church community.

Our father’s faith, resilience and determination helped him recover from a brain aneurysm many years ago and more recently, from kidney failure. Sadly, though, 4 weeks ago, he was hospitalized due to COVID-19. We wish that we could have been with him in the hospital in his final weeks but restrictions kept us apart. True to form, however, we know that he fought as hard and as long as he could with dignity and courage.

Dad, we will forever love you and value the legacy you leave behind.

Beloved husband of 59 years of Santina. Dear father of Sandra and her husband Frank and Marco and his wife Lidia. Loved Nonno of Matthew, Natalie, Erica, Luca and Julia.

He will be sadly missed by his extended family, neighbours and friends.
